HC 201A Introduction to Darkroom
This is a fast-paced class that will cover the basics of black and white film development and enlargement. By the end of the class, students will know how to develop and print photographs from a roll of black and white film. Homework will be assigned weekly to challenge the student to become proficient with their camera and the enlarger. Interesting use of light, composition, depth-of-field, motion/time-lapse, contrast, burning-dodging, experimental techniques, proper darkroom care and safety will be emphasized. Requirements: Students must have their own 35mm camera (SLR preferred) and know how to operate it. Students are responsible for purchasing their own film and photo paper. A detailed materials list will be handed out on the first day of class. Shoot one roll of black and white film and bring it to the first class so you can learn how to develop it.
(Registration fee also allows use of open darkroom lab.)
