Borrower Responsibilities
1) Prior to checking out a laptop computer, you must:
a) Complete a Registration and Liability Form in which you acknowledge responsibility for the laptop computer and peripherals checked out under your name.
b) Provide a valid University Student ID and driver's license at time of registration.
2) You are financially responsible for:
a) Full replacement cost of all laptop computers and peripherals checked out to you, if lost or stolen during the checkout period.
b) Full repair cost charged if the computer or any peripherals are damaged, including spills from food or drink.
c) Damage or loss charges will be applied directly to your University account.
3) Never leave the laptop computer unattended while it is checked out to you!
4) All files should be stored on a floppy diskette prior to the return of the computer to the Information Desk. Neither Information Technology Services nor The Commons assume any responsibility for files stored on the hard disk or the recovery of files accidentally left on the hard disk after the computer has been returned. Please do not store files on the laptop.
5) Laptop computers are for use in the The Stamp only, and MUST NOT leave the building.
6) The maximum check out period is 2 hours. If there is no waiting list a student may bring the laptop back to the desk to renew the check out for an additional 2 hours. Students who exceed the 2 hour limit may be blocked from future check outs.
7) If a computer and/or peripherals are not returned, this will be considered theft of University property, and appropriate action will be taken.
8) Neither the University of Maryland nor The Stamp is responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred to, or from, a user's disk or network account.
9) Personal software may not be loaded onto the laptop at any time.
10) Violation of above policies will be grounds for refusal of service in the future, and/or fines.
11) All use of the laptop must comply with the University's Guidelines for Acceptable use of Computing Resources, which can be viewed at http://www.nethics.umd.edu/aup/ .
